I am currently a Professor at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and fellow of “Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico”. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Maringá (2004), a Master’s degree in Aquatic Ecology at the same abovementioned University (2007) and a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Federal University of Goias (2010), with a Sandwich period at KU Leuven, Belgium (2009). My main research interest is on spatial and temporal patterns in biodiversity. My research is nowadays focusing mainly in community organization, biotic homogenization, and invasion biology of aquatic ecosystems in the Atlantic Forest. Isabela Galarda Varassin
I am Professor at the Federal University of Paraná. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (1993), a Master’s degree (1996) and a PhD (2002) in Ecology from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas. I had two Sabbatical positions, one at the New York Botanical Garden (2005-2006) and the other at University of Maryland (2012-2013). My main research interest is on pollination and dispersal ecology. My research is nowadays focusing on the structure of interaction networks and community organization patterns in the Atlantic Forest. Luciano Felício Fernandes
My main research focuses on Taxonomy of Diatoms and Dinoflagellates (Tropical and Antarctic) and in Ecology, with emphasis on phytoplankton and invasive species, working mainly in the following areas: toxic microalgae, ecology of harmful algae and blooms in the marine environment and freshwater reservoirs; taxonomy of harmful diatoms and dinoflagellates and tintinnid ciliates. I hold a Bachelor title in Biological Sciences by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1988), a Master’s Degree in Botany by the Federal University of Paraná (1991) and a PhD in Zoology by the Federal University of Paraná (1996). Post-doctoral studies at Woods Hole Oceanogr. Inst. (WHOI) between 2007 and 2009, in Molecular Biology of harmful microalgae. I have been attending to courses on taxonomy and ecology of harmful microalgae in the USA (WHOI), Spain (IEO-Vigo), France (Roscoff Mar.Biol.Station) and Italy (Staz.Zoolog.Napoli). Currently, I am Associate Professor IV at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil.

Marcia Cristina Mendes Marques
I am PhD in Botany from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp , 2002) and Full Professor at UFPR (1995-actual) where I had experiences as graduate program coordination and as head of department. I was visiting professor at University of Aberdeen (UK, 2007) and Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada, 2014), vice-president of the Association of Ecological Science and Conservation (ABECO, 2014-actual), member of the International Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and Brazilian Ecological Restoration Society (SOBRE). My scientific interests are Tropical forest diversity and conservation (mechanisms responsible for maintaining the diversity, distribution of species in temporal and spatial scales), ecological restoration, forest regeneration and forest resilience, specially focused in the Atlantic Forest. Parallelly I am also particularly interested in science philosophy and science-art relationships.

Marcos Bergmann Carlucci
I am a plant ecologist with special interest on the assembly of ecological communities at varying spatial and temporal scales. I use both trait- and phylogeny-based approaches to address niche- and history-related questions in plant community ecology. Most of my studies in vegetation science address questions from local to regional spatial scales, but I also have experience working with macroecological scales. Most of my published work is purely theoretical, but I am also interested in conservation issues. I have recently started a research project on community assembly bases to the restoration of ecological functions. My main field experience has been in native mosaic of forests and open vegetation, especially those formed by Araucaria mixed forest and native grasslands in southern Brazil.

I am Professor at the Federal University of Paraná and Associate Honorary Researcher at the New York Botanical Garden. Renato Goldenberg
Dr. Goldenberg is an Agronomist (USP, 1990) with both MsC and PhD in Plant Biology at UNICAMP (respectively 1994 and 2000), and postdoctoral/sabbatical fellowships at The New York Botanical Garden (2006/2007) and the Smithsonian Institution (2012/2013). He is currently a Full Professor (“Professor Titular”) at UFPR, linked to the Botany Masters Degree Program at UFPR and to the Plant Biology Graduate Program at UNICAMP, and also receives a productivity grant from CNPq, level 1-B. Victor Pereira Zwiener
I am a Professor at the Federal University of Paraná. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Paraná (2005), a master’s degree (2009) and a Ph.D. (2015) in Ecology and Conservation from the Federal University of Paraná. During the Ph.D. I had the opportunity to develop projects with researchers from the University of Kansas, USA, which I still collaborate. I develop research projects in the following subjects: biogeography, ecological niche modeling, macroecology, climate change, ecological succession, restoration of degraded areas, structure, dynamics and floristic of the Atlantic Forest, spatial prioritization for conservation and restoration of biodiversity. I am interested in studying ecological processes that act on different spatial scales, seeking to provide the scientific knowledge necessary for the management and conservation of ecosystems.
